How is your team uniquely positioned to solve the problem you're tackling?
Ryan's a badass AI PhD who spent about a decade researching the same kinds of problems we're trying to solve, and I've been in the hardware robotics / imaging start up space, as well as health tech logistics start up space (at home health care and urgent care) for my whole career. We've pretty much worked on every single problem we're tackling right now at a past moment in time, ranging from RL models to tele-operator logistics to low-cost rapid hardware prototyping. Ryan and I have also been best friends since starting college together at 14, and have co-founded a venture backed start up together in the past, so we have pretty much a mind meld going at this point.
Can you share a distinctive achievement or highlight from your career?
I worked as the first engineer for Tim Kentley Klay (founder of Zoox) at his newest start up (Hypr), and my first task was to turn off the shelf Smart ForTwos into a platform for self-driving racing cars. In six weeks. I had never actually even looked inside the trunk of a car at that point in my life. I didn't quite ship them in six weeks, but I did get a fleet of them going, and the moment I had full control of the first prototype (MJ01) and was driving him around the parking lot behind our office with a joystick is still the proudest technical moment of my career.
