CEO at Fearn

Han Kim

For years, I was a patent prosecutor at MoFo, a top Big Law firm for intellectual property. I drafted and prosecuted for Fortune 500s, as well as for start-ups, across the domains of software, hardware, and biotechnology. Prior to my time in law, I was a PhD student at Caltech, studying AI / comp neuro. There, I studied the relationship between biological and artificial neural computing algorithms. At Fearn, I get to combine my technical and legal skills to build otherwise impossible AI tools.

Questions & Answers

What sets you apart from others in your industry?

We've built our own foundation models for exactly the needs of the intellectual property community. Two things here: 1. Our foundation models are built on top of our own proprietary model architectures. These architectures enable our models to be hypercompact. Our hypercompact models can be run on almost any hardware. As a result, we need not touch the cloud. We can guarantee complete privacy and data sovereignty for our customers. 2. Our models are trained on proprietary data. These data are expertly curated, and include trustworthy labels from industry-leading professionals. Our founding team, including myself, has firsthand experience in both patent law and AI research. Because of this, we can natively bridge the gap between technical and domain expertise, to build otherwise impossible AI applications.

What inspired you to start your business?

I started Fearn based on my own experiences, from when I drafted and prosecuted patents at MoFo, one of the top BigLaw firms for intellectual property. I understand firsthand both the delightful and painful practices of intellectual property law. With Fearn, we preserve those delightful aspects, while eliminating the painful parts.
