Questions & Answers
What's the story behind your company?
2weeks is founded by Richard Foge and Brandon Dillon, who have had a close creative partnership over multiple decades and studios. We specialize in building great new games and franchises from scratch, and have been drawn to the open web as a way to take our development methods public, involving players in the development process for great new experiences.
What problem or opportunity inspired you to start your company, and how has your vision evolved since then?
After a long dry spell following the death of flash, new game-ready web tech has finally reached wide distribution, enabling a new generation of games to find an audience on the web. The low friction and advancing capabilities of the web inspired us to reach new audiences with innovative game concepts. The web is rich with both promise and challenges. The opportunity to establish new experiences without being beholden to traditional platform holders is extremely compelling to us, but requires finding smart alternative distribution strategies. Second-wave platforms like Discord, YouTube, and Telegram provide interesting new possibilities, but the space is rapidly evolving and will require adaptive strategies in order to take maximum advantage.
What inspired you to start your business?
We have decades of experience incubating new franchises, but some of our best work never saw the light of day due to studio bureaucracies out of touch with the market. We see a new opportunity opening up for a revitalization on the web, where we can develop new IP with direct participation and engagement from the audience.
