Questions & Answers

What inspired you to start your business?

I've always been deeply ingrained in the world of video games and online communities. Gaming led me to both competitive programming olympiads and building large online communities in my teenage years. After spending a few years at Canva as a software engineer and engineering manager, I'm now harnessing all that I've learned in my journey in life so far to build the perfect confluence of what I love. Loftia a cozy MMO geared towards creating a relaxing, cohesive and social online environment to bring together people from all over the world, in a time where this sort of thing is desperately needed.

What's a memorable 'aha' moment you've had while building your startup?

As we all know, gamedev is notoriously more difficult than many people would expect, with MMOs being the most difficult genre of all. When our founding team jumped onto the task of building out Loftia, there were many doubters who thought it would be impossible given we came from diverse non-gaming backgrounds. However, we've since run a million+ dollar crowdfunding campaign, built an online community of over half a million players, and as of Dec 2024, have actively been running closed Alpha playtests with over 10,000 members of our community, and are closing in on our Early Access release milestone. Going through this journey so far has even more ingrained in us a deeper understanding of the value of hard work, pushing through even in difficult times, learning as quickly as possible, and finding the right balance of listening to industry experts, versus tackling problems from first-principles and challenging the status quo.
